"Okseonbong" translates to "Jade Bamboo Peak," a name that perfectly captures its essence. Legend has it that during the Joseon Dynasty, a renowned scholar and statesman named Tteokgae Ihwang was traveling through the region. As he gazed upon the breathtaking scenery of Okseonbong, he was so captivated that he wished for it to be included in the prestigious Danyang Eight Views, a collection of the most scenic spots in the region. However, the mountain was technically part of a neighboring province. Determined to preserve its beauty for future generations, Ihwang inscribed the words Dangudongmun (Gateway to Danyang) on the mountainside, effectively claiming it for Danyang.
Today, Okseonbong remains a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. The trail leading to the summit offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the winding river below.
